There were 2 short tracks. Poor Edgar has me for a handler. The first track didn't have enough food drops.

The second track, which I put in, I was so busy watching him I forgot where I put the second turn. Edgar seems to be one of my dogs that likes to overshoot the turns. I'll have to remember to back up.

My line handling has gone to poop. I kept getting tangled in the line.  Oy Vey.

Edgar gets car sick and Mary Ann gave me an idea for the car sickness. It was to put him in the car and let him chill and don't drive.  Build up the time he spends in the car. I hope it works.

This evening Edgar and played an article game. He was very good on sitting at the article. He got high value treats on his articles.

  1. I hope the car time will help him. Then short trips - like around the block. Then increase as he is successful.

  2. Beth, when Jetta was a carsick dog, after the sitting in the running car didn’t bother him, I’d drive to the end of the driveway and back. And if ever he started drooling, I’d pull over and wait until he stopped (plus about 30”). It took a bit, but he ended up a great car dog.

  3. I once sat in the car at the Manakin food lion for a hour waiting for him to stop drooling🤦‍♀️

  4. Again, welcome to the class! Nice job starting off your blog posts! Edgar handled all the newness of the class setup with multiple dogs, people, waiting in the car, etc really well! It was a good start for you both so don't be too hard on yourself. If you can, start planning your sessions with the fields below included. You can include this with your blog post and your tracking map. I'd focus on having a clearly defined goal for your current track and then having something in mind for the next one. For every few practice tracks maybe incorporate the five treats leading up to and away from one of the turns as well as five treats up to the article...don't necessarily do this every session but work it into your toolbox.

  5. Welcome to class, Beth! Às Anne noted, this form helps set a clear goal for the training session before you even plan the track. When you upload the form and map, you can also sketch a dashed line of Edgar's footpath and when he overshoots so we can help you look for patterns. Excited to see your progress!
