Today in class the dogs played a game called article and now the second word escapes me.
The idea is to teach the dog to search off of the track for an article and then get back on the track. I was thinking it over after class. If the dog is on a very short leg that has the article and then there is a jump back to the track either to the left or the right of the article that goes in the same direction, should there be foot steps leading up to the article?
No, today's game was Track Re-acquisition. There is an article mid way on second leg. Then two steps right, food drop and continue laying track forward in same direction. Dog finds article, is rewarded and he searches to find the new parallel track. It's not about finding an article, it's about finding the new parallel track. There are different games with emphasis on articles.
ReplyDeleteAnother objective for todays exercise was to practice for articles that BLOW off the track by a few feet. Handler & dog then find themselves OFF the track by a few feet and need to learn to re-acquire the track.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I get for mulling over what we did and getting confused.
