Today, very painful body and all, I took the dogs out to Dorey to track. I made an extra effort to keep my weight on Edgar's leash so he had to stand still. I tried to film it but mostly it was just my ear band.
We did a 3 turn stair step. The track went in at 11:55 and we ran it 12:30. The conditions were very short, damp grass, partly cloudy and no wind.
I had put the food every 12 steps since that had worked at Kipp's. I need to go back to food every 8 steps. Coming out of the turns I tried walk 5 food for five and then one at 12 and continue. I did that for the first 2 turns and it went good. The last turn I did five food and then the routine drops. The first worked better.
This evening I played Julia Priest's article game. As he got into the game he sat at his articles more quickly to get to play with squeaky cow.
Sorry you weren't feeling 100% for this one! I'm guessing at 12 food drops it didn't go as well as you'd like since you think you need to go back to 8? It would be great to have some description about it in terms of what you observed that lead you to that conclusion. I like that you are filing away what worked well and less well for the turns! I'd be curious to see how he did with a combination of scuffs and food... Great that the article game went well!
ReplyDeleteAnne, for the food drops he just seemed to not be right on the track with them that far apart. This is where the video was helpful. I went back and listened to what I didn't want to forget. If that even makes sense.
DeleteI'm having a hard time with how far apart to put the food drops since he's so big and seems to have grown more. When we get into the obedience ring I'm putting antlers on him and pretending he's a moose.
Thanks for the clarification. My girl is huge so totally understand!
